In around 539 AD Shaolin Kung Fu began under Ta-Mo, Bodhidharma, the Indian Monk who came to Shaolin Temple and helped forge the basis of Shaolin Kung Fu through the The Eighteen Hand Movements. These were designed to strengthen the costitution of the priests and better prepare them for meditation.
Many of the Shaolin priests at that time were retired soldiers and generals thus Ta-Mo's teachings were enriched and refined by these martial art masters and slowly developed in to Shaolin Temple boxing & its derivatives.
These techniques helped defend Shaolin Temple against many invaders and on occasion helped various Military Rulers Retain Power or overthrow the establishment and these actions helped create the Legend of Shaolin Temple.
Long Fist as taught by Shaolin Temple is directly descended from the Art as developed by Song Dynasty King, Zhao Quan Ying.
This instructional is taught by a REAL Shaolin Monk, Zhi Dazhi, 32nd generation Shaolin Monk.
